Iran says Saudi-Türkiye-Pakistan Defence Pact poses no threat

TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has said a defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan does not pose a threat to Iran.

Speaking at a media briefing, Baghaei said the United States was responsible for insecurity in the Middle East and urged Gulf countries not to allow Washington to use their territory for attacks against Iran.

He said the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened if there were no intervention by a third party. However, he said an agreement with Oman did not guarantee the safety of shipping through the strategic waterway.

Baghaei also said the United States was not currently engaged in negotiations with Iran. Instead, messages were being exchanged through intermediaries, he said.

“Talks with the United States will not resume as long as violations of the interim agreement continue,” Baghaei said.

He reiterated that the defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan was not considered a threat to Iran.
