The Israeli army killed the entire family of one-year-old Kanan Al-Attar by bombing their displacement tent in Deir el-Balah. The attack came shortly after the world welcomed a ceasefire deal, which Israel repeatedly violated by targeting and killing innocent Palestinians.

Kanan lost his parents and three siblings: 11-year-old Abdullah, 9-year-old Jehad, and 7-year-old sister, Joury.

He is now under the care of his paternal grandmother and uncle, Mohammad Al-Attar, who often try to explain to him that he is his father.

According to his grandmother, the child has suffered immense emotional trauma and becomes terrified by the sounds of bombs or even prayers.

Mohammad Al-Attar said that although he reassures Kanan that he still has a father, the child constantly searches for his family. Having just learned to walk, he keeps looking for his parents and siblings.

The family celebrated the ceasefire like everyone else in Gaza, but their happiness was short lived when Israel breached the truce and killed them.

“It broke me to see their lifeless bodies stacked in a vehicle in shrouds. My nephew can’t sleep at night.”

The Israeli army claimed that Mahmoud Al-Attar was on a hit list, which Mohammad denied, stating that if they intended to strike Mahmoud, they could have done so outside the tent, instead of killing the entire family.

Since the ceasefire, Israel has killed 46 children in just two days, continuing to target civilians while the international community enforcing the ceasefire has largely remained silent.

Humanitarian aid to Gaza remains blocked, leaving Palestinians devastated and suffering despite the nominal ceasefire.
