In an outrageous act, the Israeli occupation army replaced aid meant for starving Palestinians in the Gaza Strip with bags of sand, amid the acute food shortage in the besieged enclave.

A video circulating on social media showed angry Palestinians discarding bags labeled as "white sugar" in Hebrew after discovering they were filled with sand.

The deceptive labeling sparked outrage.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) recently reported that only 6% of Gaza’s population is receiving food aid, as Israel's blockade has severely restricted the entry of essential supplies into the enclave.

In September, the UN warned that over 1.8 million people in Gaza were experiencing “critical levels” of hunger. Similarly, the Norwegian Refugee Council revealed that 83% of humanitarian aid is being blocked from entering the territory, leaving the majority of the population in desperate need.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Michael Fakhri, submitted a report on Monday to the UN General Assembly, detailing how the food shortage and deplorable hygienic conditions in the besieged enclave pose a serious threat to the lives of Palestinians amid the Israeli military offensive.

“Israel’s ‘starvation campaign’ in Gaza is killing more people than bombs and bullets,” the report said.

The findings of the report highlighted that the destruction of Gaza's food supply chain, agricultural land, ports, and fishing vessels completely cut off all sources of food for Palestinians.

“In turn, Israel then used humanitarian aid as a political and military weapon to harm and kill the Palestinian people in Gaza,” the report read.

The overall Palestinian death toll since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza has reached at least 44,282 with more than 104,880 wounded. Thousands more remain trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
