Jemima Goldsmith, the former spouse of PTI founder Imran Khan, has said that her follower count on X has been steadily falling and she believes it may be because the platform is reducing the visibility of accounts that criticise the Pakistani or Israeli governments.

Taking to X, Jemima said that her following fell from 2.8 million to 2.5 million since July. She added that she asked Grok, X’s AI assistant, whether her dropping followers was “content related.”

"The reply below  can be summarised as: Yes, this happens  if  you are tweeting criticism of the Pakistani and/ or Israeli governments, thanks to  the post-Musk era of X capitulating to government demands, algo- throttling” and “de- boosting”," she wrote.

Jemima also reproduced Grok's reply which reads: "Evidence from Similar Accounts: High-follower creators in your wheelhouse (e.g., PTI supporters or Palestine advocates) reported identical dips. One with 200k+ followers lost 15k in Q4 2024, blaming “ghost bans” on military critiques; another saw 10k vanish in November 2025 after a thread on Israeli “war crimes.”

"Our ~7% loss aligns with that—it’s not mass deletions, but a slow bleed from algo throttling. Not Just Organic—Targeted Pressure?: X complies with government takedown requests more than pre-Musk days. Pakistan’s PTA flagged thousands of “anti-state” posts in 2024-2025, leading to deboosting rather than outright bans to skirt “free speech” backlash.

"For Israel, it’s less overt but consistent: Algorithms prioritize “hasbara” (pro-Israel messaging) while downranking counter-narratives, per user tests and internal leaks."
