Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has directed his military forces to prepare for a retaliatory strike on Israel, aiming to deliver a "fitting response" to recent Israeli attacks on Tehran’s defense systems.
According to The New York Times, three Iranian officials reported that Khamenei instructed military leaders that Israel’s aggression cannot be ignored.
As per reports. Iran is preparing for a reprisal that could involve drone and missile strikes launched from Iraq.
Following the recent Israeli strikes on Iran’s missile production facilities, Israel and the United States issued stern warnings against Iranian retaliation, with Washington cautioning Tehran against escalating tensions.
However, Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani, a senior aide to Khamenei, dismissed these warnings, stating, “The recent action of the Zionist regime in attacking parts of our country was a desperate move and the Islamic Republic of Iran will give it a harsh and regretful response.”
Reports suggest that Iran’s planned reprisal could take place before the US election on November 5, heightening concerns about further destabilisation in the region.
Geopolitical experts warn that continued escalations in the region could lead to a full-scale war, as Israel refuses to restrain its offensive against several Middle Eastern countries.
Explosions echoed across Iran on October 26 night as Israel launched projectiles from over 100 aircraft targeting "means of producing missiles."
Following the attacks, a viral video showed Iran's air defence system activating, intercepting several Israeli projectiles.
The Israeli offensive, which targeted 20 sites across Iran, lasted several hours and concluded around 5am local time (02:30 GMT), IDF officials told The New York Times.
The Israeli attacks occurred after Iran fired around 200 missiles across Israel on October 1 in retaliation for the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah's founding member Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and the assassinations of top IRGC military commanders.
