Britain’s monarch King Charles III and former US president Donald Trump shared a series of lighthearted exchanges during a recent engagement, reflecting a cordial tone despite underlying geopolitical tensions.

During his remarks, the king referenced historical rivalries between British and French colonial powers in North America prior to US independence, highlighting their contest for control of the continent.

The interaction also came months after Trump’s comments at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in January, where he remarked that without US involvement in World War II, Europe might have been dominated by German and Japanese forces.

King Charles made several humorous references, including noting “readjustments” to the White House’s East Wing, reportedly redeveloped to include a large ballroom. He also alluded to the Burning of Washington, when British troops set fire to the White House, joking about past British “real estate redevelopment.”

In another remark, the king described the dinner as an improvement on the Boston Tea Party, referencing the historic colonial protest against British taxation.

Trump, known for his admiration of the British royal family, also participated in the exchange, directing much of his humour toward domestic issues.
