President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Maulana Arshad Madani, strongly criticised the Indian government's unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that disrupting the flow of water could jeopardise regional peace.

He expressed skepticism about the BJP government's motives behind the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.

“If someone stops water, let them stop it... These rivers have been flowing for thousands of years, where will you take their water? It's not easy,” Maulana Madani said.

Addressing a press conference, Madani expressed deep concern over the increasing marginalisation and targeting of Kashmiri and other Muslim communities in India.

He condemned terrorism but emphasised that an entire community cannot be vilified on the basis of the Pahalgam incident.

Madani called for an end to divisive policies, stating, “The rule should be of love, not hatred.”

Reflecting on his decades-long life in India, the senior cleric said the current atmosphere being promoted is harmful to the country’s fabric.

He also raised concerns over the ongoing demolition of homes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), questioning the justification for labeling the victims as terrorists without due process.

Madani condemned the government’s policies of communal polarisation and questioned the security failure during the Pahalgam incident, noting that it was locals, not security forces, who came to the rescue of the victims.

He further denounced the targeting of Bengali Muslims and labeled the Waqf Amendment Bill as a deliberate attempt to seize community properties.
