Social media users called out Hollywood celebrities who have supported Israel's genocide in Gaza, criticising them for showing little empathy for the thousands of Palestinians displaced from their homes. These same celebrities are now mourning their own homes, which were destroyed in the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.

Several Hollywood A-listers lost their homes to the devastating wildfire in Los Angeles, which wreaked havoc in Pacific Palisades, a posh neighborhood known for its luxury homes, malls, and businesses, now reduced to ashes.

Over 100,000 residents were ordered to evacuate as the ferocious fire, still uncontained, tore through neighborhoods and left a trail of destruction.

According to California fire protection authorities, the blaze destroyed over 1,000 buildings and thousands of other structures in the foothills near Altadena and Pasadena, north of Los Angeles.

The fire ignited around 10:30 am (18:30 GMT) on Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, scorching nearly 1,200 hectares (approximately 3,000 acres).

Renowned Islamic scholar Omar Suleiman expressed his condolences to the victims of the LA wildfires but reminded the world that the same people whose mansions are now burned are backing Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians.

James Woods, a staunch Zionist, became emotional during a live interview after his house was destroyed in the wildfire. He faced backlash for what many saw as hypocrisy in justifying the suffering of Palestinians, despite his own loss.

“Hopefully, the horrific fires in Hollywood might make the great and good out there realize just a little of the horrors Palestinians are suffering,” one X user posted, sharing a comparison between the LA fires and the hospital fire in Gaza.

Several other celebrities who have fervently supported Israel’s actions saw their own homes burned in the wildfires, with one X user calling it “natural justice.”

American actor Jamie Lee Curtis was also criticised for comparing the LA wildfires to the ongoing devastation in Gaza, where Palestinians are being bombed mercilessly. Critics pointed out that while the wildfire in California was a natural disaster, the violence in Gaza is a deliberate and inhumane act of aggression.

While Israel continues its indiscriminate bombing of Palestinian refugee camps, burning men, women, and children alive, the international community has failed to take decisive action. Meanwhile, the US and some of influential figures and organisations continue to justify the Israeli assault.

The overall Palestinian death toll since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza has reached at least 46,006 with more than 109,378 wounded. Thousands more remain trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
