A heartbreaking video showed Palestinian children collecting spoiled flour dumped at a landfill site in Khan Younis, as the food shortage in Gaza worsened amid the ongoing Israeli military offensive.
In the video, captured by Palestinian journalist Majdi Fathi, children and adults were seen scooping up rotten flour and placing it into bags and sacks to feed animals.
The spoiled flour had been discarded near the tents of displaced Palestinians, who rushed to collect it as the enclave lacks sufficient food for both humans and animals, while Israel continues to block aid from entering Gaza.
Southern Gaza has suffered immense devastation, with Khan Younis reduced to ruins during the Israeli army’s ground invasion, which was aimed at targeting Hamas fighters without providing any evidence.
While the south is grappling with acute food shortages, northern Gaza is also experiencing severe starvation, as no aid carrying essential supplies has been able to enter the enclave since the start of October, according to the United Nations.
In September, a UN report warned about Israel’s deliberate policy of starving Palestinians, who are grappling with famine and disease that are taking their lives at a more rapid pace than Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.
“Israel’s ‘starvation campaign’ in Gaza is killing more people than bombs and bullets,” the report said.
