Since the start of Ramadan on Friday evening, Palestinians have gathered at Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform the special nightly Tarawih prayers, a sacred tradition during the holy month in which the entire Quran is recited over 30 days.

Located near the Western Wall, a revered Jewish prayer site, Al-Aqsa Mosque has long been at the center of Israeli-Palestinian tensions, particularly during religious observances such as Ramadan and Passover.

Last year, far-right Israeli politician Itamar Ben Gvir sparked outrage by advocating for the construction of a synagogue atop the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex. In previous years, Israeli military raids have frequently disrupted Palestinian worshippers attempting to pray at the site.

This year, however, Palestinians are facing an even more uncertain Ramadan. Israeli military operations have destroyed refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, displacing thousands, while severe restrictions on aid have intensified fears of a return to war in Gaza.
