Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has reaffirmed Iran’s legitimate right to possess and operate peaceful nuclear facilities, while strongly criticizing Israel’s recent aggression against Iran.
Speaking to Russian media outlet TASS, Zakharova emphasized that the nuclear threat in the Middle East is no longer hypothetical but has become a real and pressing danger with serious implications for both regional and global security.
"These attacks not only escalate tensions but also pose a direct threat to peace and stability in the region and the wider world," she stressed.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, also condemned the Israeli strikes, calling on the international community to deliver a clear and unambiguous legal and political assessment of what he termed Israel’s aggressive and unlawful actions.

Gatilov cautioned that despite the diplomatic efforts by Russia and several other countries to defuse tensions, the situation is veering toward "the most negative and unpredictable scenario," warning of severe repercussions not just for the Middle East but for global security.
The Israeli regime’s overnight attacks on June 13 targeted Iranian territory, including civilian residential areas.
The strikes led to the assassination of senior Iranian military officials and the deaths of numerous civilians, including women and children, as residential buildings were struck in multiple Iranian cities.
Russia’s latest remarks underscore growing international concern over the escalation, as Iran defends itself through retaliatory operations while calling for global condemnation of Israel’s violations of international law.
