Saudi authorities have executed a woman in the western region of Makkah on charges of murdering her husband by pouring acid on him.
In a statement, the kingdom's Interior Ministry said that the convict, identified by her initials, HMT, had killed her husband, FDA, by pouring a corrosive substance on several parts of his body, leading to his death.
The woman was charged with premeditated murder and sent to court for trial.
The ministry said that the court announced its verdict, confirming her guilt, adding that the ruling was upheld at every judicial stage.
It said that the crime was described as "a heinous act, involving the unjust taking of innocent life," and the death sentence was ordered "as a deterrrent."
The woman was executed as Ta'zir, a discretionary form of capital punishment under Islamic law.
With this case, the total number of executions carried out in the kingdom this year has reached 248, including four women.
