In a heartwarming tale of parental sacrifice, 70-year-old Abu Bakar, a cleaner by profession, who travelled to Malaysia from Bangladesh, has epitomised unwavering dedication to his children's future.
For 27 years, he worked tirelessly in Malaysia without taking a single day off, ensuring his family's well-being and education.
"I had heard about job openings in Malaysia and was ready to do anything that others hesitated to do," he shared in an interview with Humans of Kuala Lumpur.
Mr Bakar's journey began 31 years ago when he left Bangladesh in search of better opportunities.
His resolve led him to work seven days a week, sending most of his income back home to cover his children's education and family expenses.
Abu Bakr persevered despite the distance and longing for his family.
“I haven’t returned to Bangladesh since I came here. I miss my family, and they miss me too, but everything I’ve done has been for my children’s better future,” he shared.
According to the employment website Indeed, the average monthly salary for a cleaner in Malaysia is about 1,640 ringgit (US$400).
Abu Bakar's labour of love has borne fruit. His daughter has become a judge, one son a doctor, and the other an engineer.
Overwhelmed with pride, he exclaimed, "I’m truly grateful for what my children have achieved."
His selflessness has inspired many, demonstrating the transformative power of parental love and sacrifice.
Humans of Kuala Lumpur reports that Bakar has returned to Bangladesh to reunite with his family.
"When he left, his fifth and youngest son was six months old," South China Morning Post said in its report.
