Trump announces three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday through his social media account that there will be a ceasefire of three days in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine from May 9 to May 11.

Some specific information about the truce was shared by the President in his social media accounts by saying that a complete halt to kinetic activity and a bilateral prisoner exchange of 1,000 people will be included in the ceasefire.

"This ceasefire was requested by me personally, and I am grateful for the agreement of President Vladimir Putin of Russia and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine.

"I hope that this ceasefire marks the beginning of the end of a very long, bloody, and fiercely fought war. Further negotiations continue for the resolution of this massive conflict, which is the largest since World War II," he said.

Russia had previously announced a two-day unilateral ceasefire to mark its May 9 World War II Victory Day on Saturday.

Ukraine previously stated that it too had offered a truce but that this had been ignored by Moscow.
