US President Donald Trump praised Pakistanis as “brilliant people” and expressed his willingness to expand trade with Islamabad, also describing his role in defusing tensions between India and Pakistan.
In an interview with US-based Fox News, President Trump said resolving the conflict between Pakistan and India was the most praised foreign policy achievement of his career. In a recent interview, Trump revealed behind-the-scenes efforts that helped prevent a potential nuclear conflict in South Asia.
Calling the military escalation between neighbouring nations "a very serious situation," Trump said, “Missiles were being fired, retaliation was underway, and both sides were escalating rapidly.” He credited the US diplomacy and himself for averting war and initiating dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
On a trade front, Trump praised Pakistan and its people, calling them “brilliant” and capable of producing “amazing things.” He expressed surprise at the low trade volume between the US and Pakistan despite positive relations and said efforts were made to promote bilateral trade as a means of fostering peace.

Trump also took a swipe at India, calling it “the country with the highest tariffs in the world.” However, he noted that India was now open to significantly reducing tariffs in trade with the US.
Concluding the interview, Trump described himself as a leader who “fulfils promises,” adding that the US, under his leadership, worked not only for world peace but also for economic progress through diplomacy and trade.
