President Trump has announced a sweeping 10% tariff on imports from all countries after a major court setback that struck down key elements of his trade policy.

According to reports, the move came after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that tariffs imposed under emergency powers were unlawful, hitting a significant blow to the administration’s trade strategy.

The court weighed that the law cited by Trump, intended for national emergencies, does not authorize the president to unilaterally impose broad tariffs, hence, effectively invalidating the previous measures.

Following the SC’s decision, Trump sharply criticized it, calling it disappointing and warning that countries celebrating it would not remain happy for long.

Despite the legal setback, the White House confirmed that the president has announced a blanket 10% tariff on all imports and intends to pursue alternative legal channels to maintain similar trade restrictions.

According to analysts, the Supreme Court’s judgment could prolong uncertainty in global trade and intensify political tensions during the election year, as it disrupts a central pillar of Trump’s economic agenda.

Reports claim that the new tariff would apply broadly but may include exemptions for certain categories of goods.

Economists warn the escalating dispute between the judiciary and executive branches over tariff authority could reshape U.S. trade policy.
