Two Indian nationals have been taken into custody in the United States (US) after law enforcement officers seized a large quantity of cocaine from their truck in Indiana, authorities said.
According to the US Department of Homeland Security, immigration officials placed detainers on Gurpreet Singh, 25, and Jasveer Singh, 30, on January 4.
The two men were arrested earlier by local police in Putnam County on drug-related charges.
Officials said that the suspects were driving a semi-truck when officers carried out a routine inspection. During the check, police discovered 309 pounds of cocaine hidden inside the truck’s sleeper compartment.
The Department of Homeland Security said that the amount of drugs recovered was a large quantity, adding that the seized cocaine was enough to kill more than 113,000 people.
The investigation remains under way as federal and local agencies continue legal proceedings against the suspects.
