The UAE visa amnesty program has been extended to December 31, 2024, giving thousands of residents more time to regularize their visa status without facing fines or penalties.
The extension is aligned with the UAE's 53rd Union Day celebrations and showcases the country's commitment to humanitarian values, according to Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP).
The program, initially launched on September 1, has seen a significant increase in applications as the initial deadline approached. Al Khaili described the extension as a final chance for violators to settle their status without facing fines or re-entry bans .
Key Benefits of the UAE Visa Amnesty Program:
Waiver of fines for overstayers: Millions of dirhams in fines have been waived for those who regularize their visa status .
Opportunity to secure employment: Individuals can amend their residency status and find employment.
Humanitarian focus: The initiative prioritizes helping violators secure their rights and care for their families.
Reasons for Visa Amnesty:
Job loss: Expats who lose their jobs may struggle to find new employment or leave the country within the grace period .
Passport expiration: Expired passports can create a complex legal limbo, making it difficult for individuals to renew their visas or exit the country.
Absconding cases: Employees who leave their sponsors without proper visa cancellation may face legal issues.
