Fouzia Zahour has made history as the youngest woman in the UAE to obtain a heavy vehicle license, challenging traditional norms along the way.
Originally from India, Fouzia took on the role of sole breadwinner for her family early in life after her father passed away before she was born, and later caring for her mother until her recent passing.
Her journey began with obtaining a car license in 2013, after which she set her sights on earning a heavy vehicle license, a rare achievement for women in the country. Overcoming rigorous eye, physical, and driving tests, Fouzia impressed licensing officials who had little experience with female applicants.
Today, Fouzia works at a private company in Fujairah, where she skillfully operates 22-wheeler trucks, transporting heavy loads of sand and stones across the UAE. Her dedication and expertise extend to managing double- and triple-axle trucks, including her longest journey from Dubai’s Jebel Ali to Al Qudra.
By donning the traditional Emirati dress, the abaya, while excelling in her field, Fouzia is breaking stereotypes and promoting women's empowerment. Her determination serves as an inspiration, demonstrating that women can succeed in traditionally male-dominated fields and challenging perceptions about what is possible for women in the workforce.
Fouzia Zahour's story is about personal achievement and paving the way for more women to pursue their ambitions and contribute meaningfully to society, regardless of the challenges they face. Her journey exemplifies resilience, determination, and the pursuit of equality in professional opportunities.
