The Israeli military confirmed on Monday that Omer Maxim Neutra, a 21-year-old American-Israeli citizen, was killed during the October 7, 2023 attack.

Initially believed to be alive and held hostage in Gaza, Neutra's death was officially confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Neutra had been serving as a tank platoon commander during the assault, and his body remains held hostage in Gaza.

Neutra’s family and friends described him as a warm and optimistic individual, known for his love of sports, including soccer, basketball, and volleyball.

He was also the captain of his school’s sports teams.

Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, paid tribute to Neutra, stating that he “fell in a heroic battle near Nir Oz on October 7.” Nir Oz, a kibbutz near Gaza, was one of the hardest-hit communities during the attacks, with significant casualties and kidnappings.

Neutra was one of seven American citizens initially believed to be held hostage in Gaza. Of those, four, including Neutra, have now been confirmed dead, while three others are reported to be alive.
