United States President Joe Biden hinted at potential Israeli strikes on Iran’s oil industry assets, stating that discussions are underway with Tel Aviv about targeting Iranian oil facilities.
When asked by journalists if he would support such Israeli actions, Joe Biden gave an ambiguous response, stating, "We're discussing that. I think that would be a little... anyway.”
Previously, President Biden, who is set to leave office with the upcoming presidential elections, opposed Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
His comments came in the wake of former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s call for an attack on Iran’s nuclear sites, stating that it would "help change the face of the Middle East" and “fatally cripple this terrorist regime.”
According to the BBC, benchmark Brent crude oil prices surged by 5 percent following Biden’s remarks, marking a 10 percent rise since Iran’s missile attacks on Israeli military bases.
Earlier, Chief of General Staff for the Armed Forces of Iran Maj Gen Mohammad Bagheri issued a stern warning, stating that if Iran faces any attack, it will target Israel's entire infrastructure.
Iran fired around 200 missiles across Israel on Tuesday in retaliation for the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah's founding member Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, and the assassinations of top IRGC military commanders.
Satellite imagery revealed Israel’s key military air base, which houses advanced aircraft and weapons supplied by the United States, sustained damage following an Iranian missile strike.
