The United States has announced sanctions on approximately 400 entities and individuals worldwide, including 19 from India, due to their alleged involvement in supporting Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury specified that companies from China, Switzerland, Thailand, and Turkey are also included in the sanctions for supplying advanced technology and equipment that are vital to Russia's military efforts.
The sanctions specifically target several senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Defence appointed earlier this year, as well as defense companies and entities involved in supporting Russia’s energy production and exports.
Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo stated, "The United States and our allies will continue to take decisive action across the globe to stop the flow of critical tools and technologies that Russia needs to wage its illegal and immoral war against Ukraine."
The sanctions are intended to disrupt Russia's procurement of key technologies and components, particularly microelectronics and CNC (computer numerical control) items, which are classified as high-priority by the Department of Commerce.
Countries including China, India, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and the UAE have been identified as suppliers of critical dual-use goods utilized by Russia in its weapon systems.
The U.S. Treasury expressed particular concern regarding China's ongoing export of dual-use goods to Russia, noting that Chinese companies have provided essential components that help Moscow enhance its defense production.
In response to the U.S. sanctions, Indian Minister of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that New Delhi is aware of the developments and highlighted India’s robust legal and regulatory framework regarding strategic trade and non-proliferation controls.
