The United States once again issued a clear and stern message to India, urging the far-right Modi government to maintain regional peace and stability following its unprovoked aggression against Pakistan that threatened the fragile peace in South Asia.
The message came during a meeting between Indian Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Lindau in Washington during Misri’s three-day visit, which began on May 27.
Tensions flared after India falsely accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism following the killing of tourists in the Pahalgam area of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). In retaliation, India launched military strikes on Pakistani territory on May 8, targeting civilian areas without provocation.
Pakistan responded swiftly, downing six Indian fighter jets, including four Rafale aircraft, and launching Operation Banyanum Marsoos, targeting key Indian military sites. These included BrahMos missile facilities, S-400 air defense systems, and strategic airbases.

Following the escalation, US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary Marco Rubio stepped in to mediate a ceasefire, which was accepted by both India and Pakistan on May 10.
However, the Modi government has continued its provocative rhetoric. Most notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently made an inflammatory remark, saying, “Pakistanis should eat bread or I will shoot them.”
While the official US State Department readout of Misri’s meeting with Lindau emphasised strengthening bilateral ties, market transparency, and cooperation on migration and counter-narcotics efforts, it noticeably omitted any mention of Pakistan.
This omission is being viewed by some analysts as a quiet diplomatic win for Islamabad.
However, credible sources confirm that the US did, in fact, privately urge India to avoid any further acts of aggression and emphasised the need to preserve peace and stability in the region.
