The White House on Friday criticised the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s decision to award the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, arguing US President Donald Trump was more deserving.
“President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will,” said White House spokesperson Steven Cheung in a statement posted on X.
“The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace.”
The Nobel Committee honoured Machado for her stand against authoritarianism and for being among the “courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist.”
Trump, who has actively sought the Peace Prize in the past, recently announced a ceasefire and hostage agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza.
While he has not directly addressed the Nobel decision, he posted three videos on Truth Social Friday morning showing supporters praising the Gaza deal.
