A series of aviation incidents, including two devastating plane crashes within a single week, left the world in shock, claiming over 200 lives and raising concerns about air travel safety. The incidents took place in South Korea, Kazakhstan, Canada, and Norway.

Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243

On December 25, The Azerbaijan Airlines flight had deviated hundreds of miles from its planned route from Azerbaijan to Russia and crashed on the opposite shore of the Caspian Sea.

The plane had 64 passengers and 5 crew members on board. At least 29 passengers miraculously survived the plane crash.

The flight was en route from Baku to Grozny in Russia's Chechnya when it was rerouted due to heavy fog in Grozny, as reported by Russian news agencies.

The plane caught fire following the crash, and emergency responders were promptly deployed to extinguish the flames.

The plane was struck by Russian air defense systems, forcing it to divert across the Caspian Sea and crash-land in Kazakhstan.

Jeju Air flight 2216 – South Korea

In South Korea, a deadly plane crash at Moan International Airport claimed the lives of 179 people when Jeju Air Flight 7C2216 crashed after its landing gear failed to deploy. The crash, which occurred after 9 am local time, left only two crew members alive.

The flight had been traveling from Bangkok, Thailand, to Moan International Airport, carrying 181 people, including six crew members.

As the plane approached the airport, it skidded off the runway, struck the airport wall, and erupted in flames.

A video of the crash, which surfaced online, showed the plane’s landing gear failing to deploy, leading to the disaster.

Air Canada flight 2259 – Canada

In another dramatic event, Air Canada Flight 2259 was forced to make an emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport after experiencing a landing gear failure on Saturday night.

The flight, which had departed from St. John’s International Airport, encountered difficulties at approximately 9:30 pm local time, causing the aircraft to skid and catch fire in one of its engines. Emergency crews quickly responded to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members.

Following the safe landing, everyone on board was evacuated and taken to a nearby hangar for medical check-ups. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

In the aftermath, flights at Halifax Airport were temporarily suspended as a precaution, but one runway was later reopened.

KLM flight KLM1204 – Norway

A passenger plane traveling from Norway to the Netherlands skidded off the runway during an emergency landing on Sunday, marking the fourth crash in a single week.

According to Anadolu Agency, a Boeing aircraft veered off the runway at Oslo Torshavn Airport after being diverted there shortly after taking off from Oslo Airport.

The pilots had made the decision to reroute the flight 110 kilometers from Oslo for the emergency landing.

While the plane landed safely, it skidded off the runway and came to a stop in a grassy area adjacent to it.

As per initial reports, the cause of the incident was a malfunction in the aircraft’s hydraulic system. Fortunately, the 176 passengers and 6 crew members on board were unharmed.
