Two iconic record holders, including the world's tallest woman, Rumeysa Gelgi, and the world's shortest woman, Jyoti Amge, met for the first time on the 20th annual Guinness World Records Day celebrated at the Savoy Hotel.
Gelgi and Amge featured in the Guinness World Records' 70th-anniversary edition alongside other notable figures such as Diana Armstrong, the woman with the longest fingernails, Sultan Kosen, the world’s tallest man, and disabled strongman Dave Walsh.
At 7 feet 7.1 inches, Gelgi, a 27-year-old Turkish advocate, is notably taller than Amge, a 30-year-old Indian actress, who stands at just 2 feet 7 inches.
During their afternoon tea, the duo shared their experiences and bonded over common interests, including a love for makeup, self-care, and nail care.
Gelgi, who earned her title in 2021, expressed how amazing it was to meet Amge for the first time, noting that their height difference made eye contact challenging but adding to the unique nature of the encounter.
Amge, who holds the title since 2011, was equally delighted to meet Gelgi, remarking on how refreshing it was to finally look up at someone taller than her.
Guinness World Records (GWR) editor-in-chief Craig Glenday commented on the importance of such meetings, stating, Guinness World Records is all about "celebrating differences," and “By bringing together these two amazing, iconic women, they can share their perspectives on life with each other and, also, with us.”
The GWR Day event highlighted the diversity and uniqueness of its record holders, who come from a wide range of fields, from science and technology to sports, arts, and media.
