In a bizarre incident in India's Uttar Pradesh, doctors successfully removed 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens from the stomach of a 35-year-old man admitted to a de-addiction centre.

The patient, identified as Sachin from Hapur, had been receiving treatment for drug dependency when he developed a strange compulsion to swallow household objects. According to doctors, endoscopic attempts to extract the items were unsuccessful due to their sheer quantity, leaving surgery as the only option.

Sachin alleged that poor conditions at the rehabilitation centre fueled his behaviour. He claimed that meals were inadequate, “very little vegetables and just a few chapatis”, and that snacks sent by his family rarely reached him.

Out of anger, he began stealing steel spoons from the facility, breaking them into pieces inside the bathroom, and swallowing them with water. His compulsion later expanded to toothbrushes and pens.

The unusual habit was only discovered when he reported severe abdominal pain, prompting scans that revealed the foreign objects. Hospital authorities confirmed that the surgery was successful and that Sachin is now recovering.
