In a distinctive demonstration in Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, women initiated a boycott of the polio vaccination campaign in response to ongoing gas shortages.
The women declared that they would not allow their children to be vaccinated until gas supplies were restored, effectively expelling the polio vaccination team from the region.
Media reports indicate that the incident occurred in the Karak district of KPK, where the women have stated that the anti-polio campaign will not resume until the gas issue is resolved.
Deputy Commissioner Shakeel Ahmed confirmed that the women have been promised a resolution to the gas shortage within two days.
He further noted that the polio vaccination efforts are ongoing throughout the district, and Sui-Nadran has engaged with the relevant authorities, who have also committed to restoring gas supplies.
It is important to highlight that the anti-polio campaign is currently active across the nation, with efforts being made to administer polio drops to children in their homes.
This year has seen a rise in polio cases within the country, with a total of 63 confirmed cases reported thus far, including 26 in Balochistan, 18 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17 in Sindh, and one each in Punjab and Islamabad.
