Did you know petrol price includes over Rs133 in taxes, levies, margins per litre?

Consumers are continuing to pay substantial taxes, levies and margins on petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD), with the additional charges significantly increasing the retail prices of petroleum products, according to official documents.

The documents show that petrol is being sold at Rs133.02 per litre above its reported base cost, while the difference for high-speed diesel stands at Rs122.55 per litre.

According to the available data, Rs131.60 per litre is being collected on petrol in the form of levies, taxes and margins. In the case of HSD, Rs122.55 per litre is being charged under these heads.

The cost of petrol is estimated at Rs234.73 per litre, while its current retail price has been fixed at Rs367.75 per litre.

The Petroleum Division said petrol has become Rs21.88 per litre more expensive over the past three days, while the price of diesel has increased by Rs14.62 per litre during the same period.
