FBR compiles new list of over 170,000 non-filers

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has prepared a new list of more than 170,000 non-filers as part of its ongoing efforts to widen the tax base.

According to FBR sources, the latest list includes around 174,000 individuals who have not filed tax returns.

The list also contains the names of some housewives.

Sources said that notices have already been issued to most of the non-filers.

The FBR is sending notices both online and at home addresses using individuals’ national identity card details.

Officials added that those identified as non-filers will be required to submit tax returns for the past three years along with relevant supporting documents.  The FBR is using multiple channels to notify individuals, including online systems linked to national identity card numbers, as well as physical notices delivered to residential addresses.

Officials said this approach is intended to ensure that all identified non-filers are formally informed and given an opportunity to regularise their tax status.

The development comes amid broader government efforts to tighten restrictions on non-filers, including proposals to limit cash withdrawals and other financial transactions.
