The minimum amount of Sadqa-e-Fitr, which is an obligatory charitable donation that Muslims are required to pay during the holy month of Ramadan, was fixed at Rs300 per head for the current year.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Shariah Board Pakistan Sheikh Al-Hadith Professor Dr Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali on Thursday.

The rates are based on the prices of staple foods such as flour, oats, dates, or raisins, as per the Islamic Shariah.

According to the statement, a faithful who wants to pay Fitra equal to the price of oats, and dates should pay a minimum Rs600 and Rs2,400 per head, respectively.

Similarly, a faithful who wants to pay Fitra at the rate of raisin should pay Rs4,400 per head, Dr Zafar added in a statement.

A Muslim, who possesses food in excess of his needs, must pay Sadqa-e-Fitr before the Eid prayers.

He said that if someone was unable to fast during the entire month of Ramadan he or she should pay Rs9,000 as Fidya (compensation) if the payment was to be made on the basis of flour price, Rs18,000 in case of oats, Rs72,000 in case of dates, and Rs132,000 in case of raisins.
