Govt allows import of used cars with up to 2,000 km mileage

The federal government on Thursday decided to allow the import of used cars with a mileage of 2,000 kilometres, a notification issued by the commerce minister said.

The Ministry of Commerce has lifted the ban on the import of used and unregistered cars by amending Import Policy 2022.

Earlier, the import was allowed for cars with up to 500 kilometres under the 2022 policy.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, 1950 (XXXIX of 1950), the Federal Government is pleased to direct that the following further amendment shall be made in the Import Policy Order 2022," the notification read.

"In the aforesaid Order, in paragraph 2, in clause (h), for the figure "500", the figure "2000", shall be substituted," it added.

The ban was imposed by the previous Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government in order to preserve the depleting forex reserves.
