Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have initiated steps to expand trade and investment ties, days after signing a landmark Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement.
According to official sources, a high-level Saudi business delegation, including leading industrialists and investors, will visit Pakistan next month. The trip is being arranged with support from Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as part of efforts to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries, according to media reports.
The defence pact, signed on September 17 in Riyadh by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, significantly strengthened the decades-old security partnership between the two nations.
In the lead-up to the visit, senior Saudi officials met the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to discuss trade facilitation. Saudi Commercial Attaché Naif bin Abdulaziz Al-Harbi announced that a dedicated commercial desk would be established at the LCCI to promote business linkages and streamline bilateral initiatives.
Al-Harbi noted Saudi Arabia’s commitment to facilitating direct exports of Pakistani goods to the Kingdom, bypassing third-party channels, and reducing trade costs. He stressed the need for structured policies to strengthen both economic cooperation and people-to-people connections.
During the upcoming visit, the delegation is expected to participate in business-to-business meetings in Punjab, with sessions organised by the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade and the LCCI.
