Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) on Wednesday announced a major oil and gas discovery from its exploratory well Bobi Deep-1 in Sindh’s Sanghar district.

The company said that the latest find adds to its ongoing exploration efforts. In April, it had already begun commercial production from what it described as the country’s largest-ever oil and gas discovery from a single well.

In a statement, OGDCL said the Bobi Deep-1 well successfully tested the Massive Sand interval of the Lower Goru Formation. During testing, the well produced 2,000 barrels of oil per day along with 1.1 million standard cubic feet of gas per day through a cased-hole Drill Stem Test (DST), confirming the presence of hydrocarbons in the reservoir.

The company explained that a Drill Stem Test is a temporary evaluation process used during exploration to measure pressure, permeability and production potential of underground formations. It helps determine whether a well contains commercially viable reserves without requiring permanent completion work.

OGDCL said the discovery represents a key milestone, as it is the first hydrocarbon find from the Massive Sand play within the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease area.
