Pakistan has repaid $2 billion to the United Arab Emirates, according to a spokesperson for the State Bank of Pakistan.
The spokesperson said the amount had been held in Pakistan’s account as a safe deposit. Sources said the UAE had recently requested early repayment due to the prevailing international situation, prompting Pakistan to return the funds.
Officials in the Ministry of Finance said Pakistan was paying 6% interest on the amount, which had previously been rolled over annually by the UAE.
They added that in December 2025, the deposit was first extended for one month and later for two months.
Meanwhile, sources also said Pakistan recently received $2 billion in funding from Saudi Arabia, which has also assured the placement of a further $3 billion deposit in the country.
