Mobile phone imports in Pakistan increased by more than 29 per cent during the first 10 months of fiscal year 2025-26, crossing $1.62 billion, while local manufacturing and assembly of handsets also recorded growth.

Citing sources, media reports said that the total value of mobile phone imports during the July-April period of the current fiscal year reached $1.62 billion, compared to $1.25 billion during the same period last year.

In April alone, mobile phone imports stood at $176 million, reflecting a 19pc increase compared to the corresponding month last year, while on a month-on-month basis the increase was recorded at 41pc.

In rupee terms, the overall volume of mobile phone imports reached Rs455 billion, up from Rs349 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The reports said that total mobile phone imports during fiscal year 2024-25 were recorded at $1.49 billion.

Meanwhile, local manufacturing and assembly of mobile phones also showed positive growth. In March 2026 alone, the domestic industry manufactured or assembled more than 2.7 million mobile phones.

During the first quarter of 2026, total local production reached 7.3 million units, marking a 2pc increase compared to the same period last year.
