Another patient suffering from rabies has died in Karachi following a dog bite, hospital officials have confirmed.
According to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), the deceased, identified as 42-year-old Karamat, contracted rabies after being bitten by a dog around three months ago.
He was admitted to Jinnah Hospital on 8 January, where he later succumbed to the infection.
Karamat, a plumber by profession, was a resident of Gulshan-e-Maymar.
Sindh’s Health Department said the latest death has taken the total number of rabies-related fatalities in the province this year to two.
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting on rabies control, chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, decided to upgrade and activate 300 rabies treatment centres across all districts of the province.
The chief secretary said that arrangements were being made to ensure the availability of rabies treatment facilities at intervals of every 15 kilometres across Sindh, aimed at improving access to timely medical care and preventing further fatalities.
