A recent study revealed that the mortality rate from cardia arrest, lungs cancer and road accidents in men is higher than from women.

The research, which assessed the 20 leading causes of disease worldwide, was conducted by the groups of scientists at the University of Washington and California.

The study said that men are more likely to have health conditions that lead to early deaths.

However, women live longer with higher levels of illness and disability throughout their lives, including anxiety, headaches, and diseases related to joint pain.

The scientists analysed the data of research conducted in 2021, and the study was published in the Lancet Public Health journal.

The study report stated that men were disproportionately affected by 13 of the 20 conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, respiratory and liver diseases, Covid-19 and road injuries.

The research further revealed that the gap between men's and women's health has widened over the past three decades.

“This report clearly shows that over the past 30 years global progress on health has been uneven," the study’s senior author, Dr Luisa Sorio Flor at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), University of Washington said.

“Females have longer lives but live more years in poor health, with limited progress made in reducing the burden of conditions leading to illness and disability, underscoring the urgent need for greater attention to non-fatal consequences that limit women’s physical and mental function, especially at older ages. Similarly, males are experiencing a much higher and growing burden of disease with fatal consequences,” she added.
