Veteran actress Hina Khawaja Bayat stated that the increasing divorce rate is due to couples failing to address minor differences in their relationships, which led them to grow further apart. She specifically highlighted that women no longer tolerate domestic abuse, as in the past. This increased independence empowers them to make decisions to leave toxic marriages.
Hina Bayat recetnly appeared on a podcast where she offered a thoughtful perspective based on her own experience of having a supportive husband and a strong relationship with her in-laws.
She spoke candidly about the changing dynamics in relationships. According to her, one of the main reasons for the increased rate of divorces is the less tolerance levels within society.
The Jaan Nisar actor emphasised that both men and women today seem to have less patience and understanding compared to previous generations.
"Historically, women tolerated a lot of abuse both physical and emotional and that was seen as normal," Hina explained. "Today, however, women are taking a stand for themselves. They no longer accept mistreatment, which is a positive change. But this shift in attitude has also brought its own set of challenges."
While Hina acknowledged the need for women to assert themselves and refuse to endure abuse, she also pointed out that the breakdown of marriages cannot be solely attributed to one gender or the other.
She stressed that both men and women need to put in the effort to make relationships work, manage expectations, and approach their marriages with mutual respect.
