Renowned host Anoushey Ashraf shared her thoughts on patriotism and nationalism, expressing her disappointment with the distressing state of the country.
In a recent interview, she expressed her admiration for incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan while also voicing her discontent with the country's current situation.
She acknowledged the importance of patriotism and nationalism but admitted she no longer feels deeply connected to these concepts due to her diminishing patience.
“I am upset; I’m one of those people who become really disheartened. The concept of extreme love for the country and the significance of independence doesn’t resonate with me anymore,” she said.
Despite her disillusionment, Anoushey emphasised the importance of respecting freedom of expression. She stated, “Just ensure that the elections happen fairly. If democracy prevails fairly, the system will clean itself out.”
While Anoushey admitted she is a fan of Imran Khan, she clarified that this does not mean she blindly supports all his policies.
She criticised the government's handling of the current situation, including measures such as restricting VPN usage and slowing down the internet.
“If what he [Imran Khan] was doing wasn’t good, we could have dealt with it if he remained in power,” she said. “But now, they [the government] have made him a hero.”
She expressed her belief that Imran Khan would eventually be released, adding, “It would be very tragic if he lost his life like Benazir Bhutto.”
