The Oscar Awards, renowned as Hollywood's premier event, is reportedly facing the possibility of cancellation for the first time in its 96-year history due to the catastrophic wildfires.

For the upcoming 97th ceremony, the Academy Award's elite committee, which includes prominent figures such as Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, and Emma Stone, is closely monitoring the situation on a daily basis, as reported by The U.S. Sun.

An insider has indicated that there are increasing worries about the feasibility of proceeding with the glamorous event.

“The board’s primary concern at this moment is to avoid appearing celebratory while many residents of Los Angeles are experiencing profound grief and unimaginable loss,” the source stated.

The informant further noted that, “even if the fires were to be extinguished within the next week, the reality remains that the city is still in pain and will be grappling with that suffering for months.

Therefore, the leadership has decided that the emphasis will be on support and fundraising when appropriate opportunities arise.”

The wildfires in California have resulted in 25 fatalities, with expectations that this number may increase as rescue teams continue their search through the debris.

Over 200,000 residents have been compelled to evacuate their homes, with 88,000 still under evacuation orders, according to the latest reports.

This update regarding the Oscars comes in the wake of the cancellation or postponement of several other high-profile events, including the Critics Choice Awards.

Furthermore, major record labels have also canceled activities related to Grammy week in response to the ongoing crisis.
