Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday named Qatari climber and royal family member Sheikha Asma Al Thani as the brand ambassador for Pakistan’s mountains and tourism after her successful ascent of Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth-highest peak located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region.

Standing at 8,126 meters, Nanga Parbat is infamously known as the “Killer Mountain” due to its perilous terrain and extreme weather, making it one of the most challenging climbs in the world.

Congratulating her on the remarkable feat, the prime minister shared a message on X, saying, “I am pleased to appoint Her Highness Sheikha Asma Al Thani as the Brand Ambassador for Pakistan’s mountains and tourism.

My heartfelt felicitations to Her Highness on her recent feat of scaling Nanga Parbat. It is truly inspiring.”

He said that her accomplishment not only symbolizes bravery and resilience but also reflects the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Qatar.

In a post on Instagram, Sheikha Asma opened up about the intense obstacles she encountered on her way to the summit, calling it one of the toughest climbs of her mountaineering career.

“My ninth 8000er and one of the toughest climbs I’ve faced,” she wrote. “This mountain tested me in ways I didn’t expect, from black ice beneath my feet to rockfall every few seconds. A constant reminder of how fragile life truly is.”

Despite the danger, she said the experience brought personal growth, resilience, and introspection.

“There was surrender and there was strength I didn’t know I still had. I climb not just to reach summits but to return to what matters,” she added.

By raising the Qatari flag atop Nanga Parbat, Sheikha Asma became the first woman from Qatar to conquer the formidable peak. Her mountaineering achievements also include summits of Mount Everest, K2, and Makalu.
