Founder of Lahooti Melo and lead vocalist for The Sketches, Saif Samejo, was brutally tortured by police in Karachi during a chaotic protest that turned violent on Sunday.
Governor House and Saddar area became a battleground as police and protesters clashed over the violation of Section 144.
The protest was organised by "Sindh Rawadari March" from Teen Talwar to the Karachi Press Club for the arrest of the cluprits involved in the killing of blasphemy suspect Dr Shahnawaz Kunbhar.
However, the rally was met with police resistance, which led to the detention of over 100 protesters.
The demonstrators protested outside the Artillery ground police station, demanding the release of detained persons.
Protesters initially gathered at Cantt Station but were stopped by police after negotiations.
However, they later attempted to reach the Karachi Press Club via Metropole hotel in Saddar area.
A police mobile was also set on fire and two officers were injured in the clashes.
Journalists, including local news TV reporter Shaukat Korai, Saif Samejo, and social activists, were also baton-charged and detained by police in front of the KPC.
General Secretary of Home Based Women Workers Federation Pakistan Zahra Khan and other women were also among those arrested.
Following the high-profile arrests and clashes, DIG Asad Raza expressed regret over the incident and ensured the release of detained protesters and journalists.
It's pertinent to mention here that Section 144, which banned all rallies and demonstrations, was imposed in the metropolis in light of terrorism threats.
