'Why do we cover there and not here?': Yashma Gill’s Umrah journey sparks debate

Known for her roles in 'Alif' and ‘Bay Baak,' Pakistani actor Yashma Gill is currently under scrutiny for sharing pictures from her Umrah journey with family as critics have spotted perceived contradictions in her public demeanour.

Yashma turned to Instagram to share moments from her pilgrimage to the sacred cities of Mecca and Medina—a profoundly spiritual experience for Muslims. 

However, some critics mistakenly assumed it was her recent Umrah journey, whereas the ‘Phaans’ actor had undertaken the pilgrimage in 2022, sharing the memorable moments on Instagram last Friday.

Captioned "Missing the best days of my life," Yashma's posts shows her draped in an abaya and hijab. 

Her Instagram post includes pictures with her father, Indian actor Sannaa Khan, and a poignant image of her the weaving the Kiswa, the sacred cloth that veils the Kaaba.

Critics are questioning the apparent disparity between Yashma's spiritual journey and her bold outfit choices. 

In the comments, one critic expressed, "Why do we cover there and not here? What's the difference? Jo Allah waha hay wahi Allah yeha hay, [God exists everywhere] ironic it is."

This debate shows how a public figure's spiritual beliefs connect with their everyday actions, and reflect the complexities of maintaining a personal identity in the public spotlight.

In an interview with Samina Pirzada, the ‘Azmaish’ actor shared her journey from atheism to Islam and attributes her transformation to her university friend's support during this pivotal phase. 

Gill said that having faced disappointments despite being kind to everyone around her, she started questioning the existence of God religion's validity, but her friend helped her revive her faith. 

Earlier, Gill faced social media backlash for a video dancing to "Tere Wastay" in the UK, wearing a bold tank top and dancing in the street.
