Renowned Pakistani actor Yasir Hussain has faced criticism for his suggestion that the government should legalise "adult entertainment" in the country to support the economy.
The advise from the Karachi Se Lahore star came during his recent appearance on a YouTube podcast, hosted by Ahmed Ali Butt.
"People who have to watch adult theaters or content, they always look for that content from anywhere" Hussain argued.
"[...] When so many people want to watch [adult] content, the government should legally allow such content to be shown, and the government can earn money from it," he added.
Taking a jibe, he said, "Pakistan and Saudi Arabia every year compete to become a leading porn-watching country."
Hussain also revealed that he has been doing theater since he was 16 years old.
"Theater in Punjab is a source of entertainment for the common people and this is a good thing, that is why the children of theater actors are still working in this [profession]," the Peechay Tou Dekho actor mentioned.
However, the Help Me Durdana starlet admitted that some obscene and inappropriate content is also being produced in Punjab's thater.
"People who don't want to watch vulgarity should avoid [the theater] by looking at the poster [outside the cinema]," he added.
Hussain clarified that "he is not in favour of creating or watching such content himself but believes the government should permit it for those who want to watch".
