A Karachi court has acquitted YouTuber Yasir Shami in a 2022 case pertaining to allegedly leaking indecent videos of late politician and anchorperson Aamir Liaquat Hussain on social media.
The court allowed an application filed by Muhammad Yasir alias Yasir Shami through his lawyer seeking his acquittal under Section 249 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The counsel argued that there was no likelihood of Shami's conviction in the case because he was innocent and therefore, requested the court to exonerate him from all charges.
Earlier, on December 5, 2024, a judicial magistrate had dismissed Shami's acquittal application, after which he filed the criminal revision application before the sessions judge.

He pleaded with the judge to set aside the magistrate's order and acquit him.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) supported Shami's plea and stated that no case was made out against him.
In 2022, the FIA had lodged an FIR on the complaint of Dua Amir, daughter of the late anchorperson.
She claimed that his father died on June 9, 2022 due to his third wife Dania Bibi, who had filed khula. "She made an obscene video of my father and [made] viral that on social media which caused serious stress / depression on my father for the reason he died".
Shami was accused of disseminating unethical content concerning the private life of the deceased on social media.
