The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has highlighted significant challenges faced by women journalists in Pakistan.
According to the organisation, 25 percent of female journalists are unaware of their legal rights regarding maternity leave in the media industry.
Almost 50 percent mediawomen lack clarity on their pay structure within their media organisations, it added.
This lack of transparency contributes to the persistent pay gap between men and women in the industry.
To address these challenges, the IFJ has launched the "Building Stronger Workplaces in Pakistan" campaign on the International Day of "Decent Work" 2024.
The initiative focuses on women in media and calls on governments and media organisations to provide journalists with safe, fair, and respectful working environments.
As the largest organisation of journalists worldwide, representing over 600,000 members in more than 140 countries, the IFJ works tirelessly to promote freedom of the press, defend journalists' rights, and improve working conditions in the media industry.
By shedding light on these critical issues, the IFJ aims to create a more equitable and supportive environment for women journalists in Pakistan.
