Karachi Police have announced a citywide crackdown against the use of fake and tampered vehicle number plates, warning that strict legal action will be taken against violators in an effort to curb attempts to evade e-challan penalties.
Addressing a press conference alongside the Chief of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho said authorities had received reports indicating that motorists had begun using counterfeit number plates to avoid electronic fines.
He stated that since the introduction of the e-challan system, traffic discipline in the city has shown noticeable improvement, adding that approximately 100,000 e-challans have been issued so far. However, he noted that some individuals were now resorting to illegal means to bypass enforcement.
The Additional Inspector General Karachi announced that a large-scale enforcement campaign against fake and tampered number plates would begin on December 19. He said the campaign would be carried out in coordination with the Excise Department.
Under the initiative, Excise Department personnel will be deployed on major roads across the city to assist law enforcement agencies in identifying vehicles with counterfeit or altered number plates. Vehicles found using tampered number plates will be impounded, and criminal cases will be registered against the owners, he warned.
