Afghanistan violated the ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked firing from the Chaman border, to which the Pakistani security forces gave a prompt, effective, and responsible response, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed.
This development comes at a time when talks between Islamabad and Kabul are underway in Istanbul, aimed at extending the recently enforced ceasefire following five days of cross-border clashes last month.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting strongly rejected the allegations made by the Afghan authorities regarding the border incident.
“We categorically reject the baseless claims made from the Afghan side regarding today’s incident at the Pakistan–Afghanistan border near Chaman,” the ministry said.
The statement clarified that the firing was initiated from the Afghan side, prompting a measured yet effective response from the Pakistani security forces.
According to the ministry, the situation was brought under control due to the responsible conduct of the Pakistani troops, and the ceasefire remains intact.
The statement added that Pakistan remains committed to ongoing peace talks and expects a reciprocal response from the Afghan authorities in the same spirit of cooperation.
Meanwhile, the third and final round of negotiations between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban has begun in Istanbul, according to diplomatic sources.
The talks commenced at a local hotel, with Pakistan’s delegation led by National Security Adviser and ISI Director General Lieutenant General Asim Malik, while representatives from the Afghan side also attended the session.
