Sindh and Punjab continued to sizzle in the heat on Friday as the mercury hit 50 degrees Celsius in parts of the provinces.

Amidst severe weather conditions and the first heatwave in the provinces, weather analysts forecasted a further increase in temperature.

The Pakistan Meteorologist Department (PMD) predicted that mercury is likely to go up 6 to 8 degrees Celsius in several parts of Sindh, including Sukkar, Mohenjo Daro, and Larkana, where the temperature is expected to increase to 50 degrees Celcius.

According to the Met Office, Karachi is also experiencing hot weather with the highest 70 percent humidity level in the air.

Weather analyst Jawad Memon attributed Karachi’s hottest weather to the closure of the sea breeze, predicting that the weather condition is expected to persist until the end of May.

Similarly, over 41°C temperature was recorded in Punjab’s Dera Ghazi, Multan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Friday.

To curb the scorching weather, governmental and private organisations established heat wave centres on roads.

The Ministry of Climate said the first heat wave will last until May 30, followed by two more separate heatwaves in June.

Addressing a press conference, Romina Khurshid Alam, the PM’s coordinator on climate change, said 26 districts in Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan are experiencing severe heatwaves.
